Child artistes of music schools-- Tangail-based Saroj Pancham and Dhaka-based Aroho-- entertained the music lovers by presenting diverse classical raga based songs at Chhayanaut auditorium in Dhanmondi on Thursday.
Child performers of Saroj Pancham, accompanied by their teacher and Saroj founder Dr Ashit Roy, were the first to take the stage. The group commenced the show by presenting a dhrupad based on raga malkauns. The group next performed a kheyal based on raga yaman and alap, jor and jhala based on raga shankara at the programme. Ashit Roy presented a bandish in solo rendition at the programme.
Young artistes of Aroho, led by classical music teacher Murtaza Kabir Murad, presented a raga hangsadhani with taal tritaal on tabla and a pahadi dhun on the flute to the delight of the houseful audience.
The event, titled ‘Praner Khela’ was arranged by Bengal Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion general sectary of the foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury said the programme aimed at creating a platform where child artistes could perform together with their teachers.
A large audience enjoyed the show. ‘The show is a good initiative as it will make youngsters interested in classical music,’ Rafika Rafi, an audience member, told New Age.
