Former BCL leader found dead in Sylhet police custody

A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, was found hanging in police custody at Jaintapur police station in Sylhet on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam Babu, 32, son of Abdul Jalil, of village Chiknagul Kohaigor in Jaintapur upazila.

He was an accused in a case filed by his wife Nasrin under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

A team of police led by Akhtar, officer-in-charge of Shah Paran police station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, arrested Nazrul at Bateswar in the city on Thursday night.

Later, they handed him over to Jaintapur police station.
