Chairman of parliamentary standing committee on railway ministry ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury on Thursday said that the government had taken an initiative to launch high-speed electric trains on Dhaka-Chittagong route.
The 50,000 crore project will be sent to Executive Committee of National Economic Council soon for approval, he said while addressing an exchange of views meeting with journalists at Chittagong Press Club.
The club organised the programme titled ‘Nandonik Chattagramer Nandita Nagarik’ at the club’s VIP Lounge.
Fazle Karim said a separate track would be constructed for the high speedy train as a part of the project.
Passengers could travel from Chittagong to Dhaka within one and a half hours to two hours if the project would be implemented.
Responding some questions asked by journalists, Fazle Karim said that the government has also plan to launch Circular Train service in the city.
He also announced to launch train services to Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology.
He said the railway ministry took several projects including construction of railway engineering university and railway police academy.
‘We are trying to increase the service of railway to passengers’, he said.
Fazle Karim said that the government took initiative to recover the railway property illegally occupied.
Chittagong Press Club president Kalim Sarwar presided over the programme while the Daily Azadi editor MA Malek, Raozan Upazila Chairman Ehesanul Hyder Chowdhury Babul, Press Club general secretary Suklal Das, senior vice president Kazi Abul Mansur, vice president Manzur Kader Manzu, joint secretary Chowdhury Farid, among others, addressed the programme.
