A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, was stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants at Hathazari upazila in Chittagong early Thursday.
The deceased Mohammad Lokman, 34, was the general secretary of BCL Fatehpur union unit and also a union parishad member for ward-8.
Hathazari police officer-in-charge Belal Uddin Mohammad Jahangir said that miscreants had attacked Lokman near his residence in Helal Chowdhury Para area around 1:30am while he was returning home on his motorbike. They stabbed him repeatedly leaving him critically injured.
Local people rushed Lokman to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
‘We suspect that the death of UP member might be linked to past enmity,’ said the police officer, adding that the victim’s family had a long dispute with one of its neighbours over the possession of a piece of land.
The police could not detain anyone involved with the murder till afternoon.
