Singer SD Rubel is all set to make his directorial debut through feature film Briddhasrom (Old Home), which is almost finished.
Rubel, who made his acting debut against Shabnur in Momtazur Rahman Akbar’s film Evabei Bhalobasa Hoi in 2010, is also acting in the film.
‘I always had passion for acting. In my college day’s I regularly performed in plays as a member of a Chandpur-based theatre troupe Ananya,’ said Rubel, who will play a social activist in his directorial debut, which depicts plight of elderly citizens living at old homes.
The film received government grant for the fiscal year 2015-2016.
Speaking about his upcoming film and his character Rubel said ‘The story of the film revolves around an old home and plight of its elderly occupants. I am playing a social activist in the film opposite actress Boby.’
Veteran actor Prabir Mitra is also acting in the film, he added.
‘Through the film I want to bring to light the tragic stories of the elderly citizens living at old homes due to their irresponsible children,’ said Rubel, adding that he always wanted to make a film on the issue but did not get the chance until now.
‘Swapan Chowdhury was supposed to direct the film. I replaced him as the director after he suddenly got ill last year,’ added Rubel, adding that he is almost done shooting the film.
‘We have completed almost 75% shooting of the film. We shot the film at several locations including an old home in Gazipur. Hopefully we will be able to release it at the end of this year,’ said Rubel.
Speaking about his recent activities Rubel said he has released a number of songs like Rangin Baishakh, Lal Paar Sharer Anchol, Kancha Morich Kancha Peyaj and a song Elo Elo Baishakh with music video, in which Rubel has also acted, during the last Pahela Baishakh. He is also doing regular TV and stage shows.
