The much-talked about big-budget film Rangbaj, starring Shakib Khan and Shabnam Bubly, may not release in the upcoming Eid-ul Fitr as its director Shamim Ahmed Rony has no chance to get back his membership of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association before June.
Shooting of the film, the first venture of Indian big production house Shree Venkatesh Films with local production house Ruprang Chalachitra, was postponed on April 30 following cancellation of Rony’s membership on April 29 from the association on the ground of casting an Indian actor without taking permission from the association and also for working with Shakib, who at that time was banned allegedly for making derogative remarks on filmmakers.
Shakib’s ban was withdrawn on May 1 for seeking unconditional apology but Rony’s fate will be decided at the end of June.
Shamim Ahmed Rony, however, has apologised to the association and applied for reinstatement of his membership with the association.
‘The association will review Rony’s application for reinstatement of his membership in the next general meeting scheduled to be held in late June or early July,’ said Mushfiqur Rahman Guljar, president of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.
There is no bar on continuing the shooting of the film if the producers appoint some other director, Guljar said.
Rony was not available to make any comment while the producers said they had not yet decided to change the director or release date of Rangabaj.
