The biennial elections to the board of directors of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry for the 2017-19 tenure was held on Sunday in a peaceful manner at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in capital Dhaka.
According to the FBCCI election board, out of 1,898 voters in the association group, some 1,668 cast their votes from 9:00am to 5:15pm without any break to elect 18 directors from the association group.
A total of 36 candidates contested for the posts of 18 directors for the association group under the banner of two separate panels.

Another panel named Baboshaye Oikya Forum led by Syed Moazzam Hossain is contesting for 18 director posts of the association group.
‘The elections was held peacefully and no untoward incident took place during the voting,’ Md Ali Ashraf, chairman of the FBCCI election board told New Age.
The votes were being counted when this report was filed at 8:00pm.
In the electoral process, 36 elected directors along with 24 nominated directors (12 from the chamber group and 12 from the association group) would choose the president of the country’s apex trade body for the next two years tenure.
The board of the FBCCI will be formed with 60 directors — 36 elected while 24 nominated from the country’s different chambers and associations.
The FBCCI election board has already declared the names of 24 nominated directors (12 from the chamber group and 12 from the association group) and 16 directors from the chamber group who were elected unopposed.

For the chamber group, 35 were the valid candidates for the 18 director posts but 17 of them withdrew their nominations on April 30.
