Winners of a nationwide cultural contest for primary school students were awarded prizes at a programme held at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
The academy organised the competition for primary school students earlier this year. Students took part in the contest in various categories like patriotic songs, Tagore songs, Nazrul songs, folk songs, poetry recitation, classical dance, acting and others.
The top three winners from each category were presented gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates at the awards programme.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest. Acting secretary of the ministry of cultural affairs Mohammad Ibrahim Hossain Khan, director general of the academy Liaquat Ali Lucky and director of music and dance and recitation department of the academy Sohrab Uddin were present on the occasion.
Twenty audio albums featuring songs by 200 promising child singers were launched at the event.
The first prize winners along with the child singers, featured in the albums, in chorus sang Dwijendralal Roy’s popular song Dhano Dhanno Pushpo Bhora and Ei Mati Noy Jongibader at the programme.
Later the academy’s acrobat troupe performed at the venue to the delight of the audience.
