Police sub-inspector and case investigation officer Maruful Islam was suspended on Sunday for submitting charge sheet against an 11 month old baby and a dead person in a case of theft and rioting filed with the Mirpur Model police station in the capital, the police headquarters said in a media release.
The media release issued by assistant inspector general of police for media and PR Soheli Ferdaus said that on the same charge Mirpur police station’s inspector (investigation) Mohammad Sajjad Hossain has been withdrawn and attached to the armed police battalion unit based at Mahalchhari, Khagrachhari and assistant police commissioner for Mirpur zone Kazi Mahbubul Alam has been withdrawn from his current posting and transferred to In-service Training Centre.
The release also said that departmental cases were being filed against the three police officers.
It said that the deputy commissioner and assistant deputy commissioner of Mirpur zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police had been admonished over the negligence and that they were instructed to discharge their duties and supervise cases intensively and with sincerity.
Actions against the errand police officers were taken by inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Huq, said the relese.
The theft and rioting case was lodged with Mirpur police station in June 2016.
The actions against the three police officers were taken after a metropolitan magistrate’s court in the capital directed the case investigation officer to explain how and why charge sheet was submitted against an 11-month old baby and a dead person in the case.
On Tuesday, Maruf is due to appear in the magistrate court to submit his explanation.
The issue came to the surface on April 30 when the baby was brought to the court by parents responding to warrant of arrest issued on March 9, a day after the IO submitted the charge sheet naming 23 people.
