The National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports went on demonstration at Phulbari in Dinajpur on on Tuesday to press for its demands, including implementation of an agreement signed following mass revolt against Asia Energy company in 2006.
The committee organised a sit-in demonstration by the Dinajpur-Dhaka Highway in Phulbari.
Its demands include withdrawal of cases, which were filed by Asia Energy against civil rights activists, within August 25.
The leaders also threatened to block roads and railways and hold a grand rally in Phulbari on August 26 if their demands were not met.
Syed Saiful Islam Jewel, the committee’s Phulbari unit convener, made the announcement at the programme.
Professor Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the committee, addressed the programme as chief guest.
Jaitya Gana Front chairman Tipu Biswas, Gonasanghati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, CPB central committee member Ruhin Hossain Prince, Socialist Party of Bangladesh’s central committee member Bazlur Rashid Firoz, United Communist Party leader Mazaffar Hossain,and Ganatantrik Majdur Party convener Samsul Alam also addressed the programme.
