A Kushtia court on Tuesday sent two local journalists to jail in a case filed by a local newspaper editor under Information and Communication Technology Act for posting derogatory remarks on social media.
The two are Hasan Ali, district correspondent of TV-channel Bangla Vision and news portal Bdnews24.com, and Aslam Ali, staff reporter of local newspaper Kushtiar Darpan.
Senior judicial magistrate Mejbaul Haq sent them to jail, rejecting their bail petitions, when they appeared before his court seeking bail as their interim bail allowed by the High Court expired on the day.
Hasibur Rahman Rizu, editor and publisher of local newspaper Daily Sotto Khabar, filed the case against them on March 30 under the ICT Act for posting derogatory remarks against him on facebook from a fake account.
On April 11, the two journalists got bail for four weeks from the High Court which expired on Tuesday.
Odhikar, a rights body, in a press release on Tuesday claimed Hasan as their activist and said that a group of police officers in Kuhstia were harassing Hasan by filing false case and bringing baseless allegations against him.
