With their back against the wall, Abahani Limited will be hoping to avoid another defeat against table toppers Bengaluru FC of India in their fourth Group E match of the AFC Cup in Dhaka today.
The match will kick off at 6:10pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Abahani, the reigning Bangladesh Premier League champions, are yet to open their account as they suffered three straight defeats that all but ruled them out of the qualification race of the next round.
Bengaluru, on the other hand, will be looking to continue their winning streak as they came here with hundred per cent winning record that kept the Indian giants on top of the table.
Abahani, who suffered a 0-2 defeat against Bengaluru in their first-leg in Bangalore last week,
were hoping to offer a tougher challenge to the group favourites at home condition.
Abahani’s Serbian born Croatian coach Drago Mamic took it as a responsibility to play better football at home.
‘This is our second match at home so it is our obligation to give our maximum and try all our power to win the game,’ Mamic told reporters during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
‘We are trying with all our best. It is kind of
competition that requires much more preparation for that.’
Bengaluru’s Spanish coach Albert Roca Pujol showed his full respect to Abahani considering the away game.
‘It’s always difficult to win away,’ Pujol said.
‘Our expectation in this tournament is very high because we reached the final last year. If we win tomorrow [today] we have the possibility to shift to the next stage.’
