Two teachers of Rajshahi University have been barred from taking part in any kinds of examination-related activities for five years after the allegation of tampering mark sheet of third-year examination in 2015 was proved against them.

They are Tanvir Ahmed, associate professor of mass communication and journalism department, and his wife Soma Deb, a lecturer of the same department.

The decision was made at a meeting of academic council of the university on Saturday night, confirmed the university pro-vice-chancellor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan.

The pro-vice-chancellor said that punitive action was taken against them as an allegation of irregularities against the couple was proved true.

Department sources said Tanvir Ahmed and Soma Deb were the teachers of course number 305 in 2015.

The chief of the department’s examination committee, Akhter Jahan, found signatures of Tanvir and Soma Deb together in some eight answer scripts of that course. It had created huge debate at the department.

Later, following the complaint of Akhter Jahan, the university authorities formed a probe body to investigate the matter and found the couple guilty.

Following Akhtar Jahan’s suicide on September 9, Tanvir Ahmed temporarily withdrew himself from all the academic activities of the department on September 22 after 17 of the teachers submitted a written complaint to the department chairman Pradip Kumar Panday stating that they all would refrain themselves from all the department's activities if Tanvir Ahmed participated in the departmental activities.
