Kalabagan Krira Chakra earned their first win in the Dhaka Premier League as they beat Victoria Sporting Club by 10 runs in an exciting encounter at the BKSP on Friday.
Mehrab Hossain Jnr, Tushar Imran and Muktar Ali scored half centuries to help Kalabagan post 259-6 but although Nasiruddin Faruque, Shafiul Hayet and Moniul Islam scored half centuries, Vicoria could score only 249-9 in 50 overs.
Man of the match, Muktar, who made a blistering 52 not out off just 27 balls, grabbed 2-42 that played a big part to restrict Victoria, the team yet to open their account even after three rounds of play.
Kalabagan lost their opener and skipper Mohammad Ashraful for just 10 and Zimbabwean batsman Hamilton Masakadza soon followed him with 11 but Mehrab made a 96-run partnership with Tushar to stabilize the innings.
Mehrab made 63 off 108 balls with three boundaries and equal number of sixes before he was caught behind off Roshen Silva and Tushar, who made 56 off 86 balls, added 57 runs with Tasamul Haque (44) in the fourth wicket to give a good launching pad for Kalabagan.
Muktar made good use of it as he made a late blitz hitting two fours and four sixes in his whirlwind knock that took the total past 250-run mark.
In reply, Victoria opener Nasiruddin held one side but saw wickets fall at regular intervals in other side and eventually when he was out for 58 they lost half of the side for just 108 in 29th over but Shafiul and Moinul showed rearguard action.
The number six and seven of Victoria added 109 runs in the sixth wicket stand and seemed to be cruising home before Shafiul was bowled by Abul Hasan for 64 with six fours and two sixes facing 81 deliveries.
Moinul was still there for Victoria and he struck a six off Masakadza in the next over to keep their hopes alive but the Zimbabwean had the last laugh as he forced him to give a catch to wicketkeeper Jashimuddin in the next ball.
Moinul made 75 off just 57 balls with three fours and three sixes but left the side on 230-7 needing 30 runs off 20 balls that proved too much for the remaining batsmen.
Abul and Masakadza finished with 2-31 and 2-43 respectively.
