Two Rajshahi University students sent to jail

A Rajshahi Court on Friday sent two students of Rajshahi University, in cases filed for sabotage and violation of rule of the university.

Earlier activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, ruling Awami League backed student organisation on Thursday, caught the duo and handed them over to police, allegedly for sharing posts of Middle East-based extremists group Islamic State on social media network Facebook.

The detainees are Jubayer Hossain, a first year student of marketing department and Maksudul Hauqe, also first year student of biochemistry and molecular biology department.

The court, however, found to evidence of sharing posts of IS on their Facebook accounts, but they were sent to jail in cases filed for sabotage and violation of rule of the university under 81 sections, said Humayon Kabir, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station.

Police released another detainee Al Towfiq, a first year student of geography and environmental studies, who was also handed over by BCL men, he added.
