The joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, on Friday called on all the political parties and organisations to stand beside the flood affected people in haor areas.
Earlier on Thursday a seven-member team of Awami League led by Mahbubul Alam Hanif, visited the flood affected haor areas at Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Netrokona and talked with the flood affected people.
Addressing a press conference party president Sheikh Hasina’s office at Dhanmondi, Hanif said that 80 per cent crops of the flood affected areas is totally destroyed.
The government and the local administrations have stood beside the affected people and distributing relief among them, Hanif said.
Hanif called on the people of the flood affected people to refrain from fishing in the area for at least seven days and also called on country’s non-governmental organisations not to collect interest of loans provided to the flood affected people.
Hanif expressed dissatisfactions over the breaking of the embankment and demanded exemplary punishments to those who were responsible for this.
He criticised the role of BNP leaders saying they were trying to create a political issue based on the flood in the haor areas.
He also called on the BNP leaders to stand beside the flood affected people with relief.
The central leaders of the party, Ahmad Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Faridunnahar Laily, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Sujit Roy Nandi, Abdus Sobur, Afzal Husain and others attended the press conference.
