Mridul Mamun’s liberation war-based documentary Sobai Ekjat has won best documentary award at the recent short film festival titled ‘Celluloid’17’ held from in Kolkata, India.
The twelve-minute documentary depicts story of Md Afzal, a man of West Pakistani descent, who fought against the Pakistan Army in the 1971 liberation war.
Being shocked at atrocities perpetrated by Pakistani army and eventually, Afzal, born to a Pakistani father and erstwhile East Pakistani (now Bangladesh) mother, decides to join the liberation war against Pakistani forces.
‘It is always inspiring to receive an award ’, said Mridul Mamun, who earlier won acclaim for his documentaries Kabootar Baaz and Gatipat.
The film festival was organised by Estrella, the official film club of Future Institute of Engineering and Management.
Mamun is currently working on a documentary titled ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ which explores the 110 year history of the song, penned by Tagore, which later became the national anthem of Bangladesh.
