The cabinet on Monday approved a proposal of the finance division enhancing the financial authority of each ministry or division.
Any ministry or division would now be able to spend maximum Tk100 crore for purchase of goods or any development works instead of Tk50 crore without approval of the cabinet committee on government purchase, said cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
In case of the purchase of service like consultancy, the ministries/divisions would have the authority to spend up to 30 crore—up from the existing ceiling of 10 crore.
The finance division placed the proposal to amend the jurisdiction of the cabinet committee on government purchase in the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the secretariat.
