The Narayanganj police claimed that they rescued Hafazat-e-Islam joint secretary general Mamunul Haque after locals had confined him to a resort in the district while he was spending private time.

The district police superintendent Muhammad Zayedul Alam told New Age, ‘He is neither arrested nor detained rather we rescued him from a local resort after a public anger.’

Mamunul was at the resort with a lady and he claimed that she was his wife, the police officer said.

‘They wedded verbally and have no document on this,’ he said.

Mamunul could not be reached despite multiple attempts over his phone.

In a video, which went viral, showed that police officials along with some people asked Mamunul about the identity of the lady. Mamunul replied that she was his second wife and they wedded two years ago.

Sonargaon police station inspector Tabibur Rahman in the evening said that as Mamunul’s followers got angry, the police handed him over to his supporters to avoid trouble.
