The biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association for the term 2021-23 would be held on April 4, according to the schedule announced by the BGMEA election board.
The board announced the election schedule on January 12 saying that the polls for electing 35 directors of the trade body would be held at Hotel Radisson Blue and the regional office of BGMEA in Chattogram on April 4.
The election board announced February 25 as the last date of nomination paper submission by candidates while March 4 as the last date of candidature withdrawal.
Elections to elect the president, seven vicepresidents and office bearers would be held on April 16 and the new board would assume charges of the trade body on April 20.
The panels of Sammilita Parishad and Forum have so far announced to contest the BGMEA elections.
Sammilita Parishad has already announced Faruque Hassan, a former vice-president of the trade body, as the panel leader while Forum leaders said that they would announce their panel leader soon.
The current board under the leadership of its president Rubana Huq assumed office on April 21, 2019 for a twoyear term through negotiations held with the rival panel.
Rubana Huq, managing director of Mohammadi Group, was the panel leader of Forum.
Although a third panel, Shadinata Parishad, had contested the last BGMEA elections, it failed to create any significant impact on the election.
