The police recovered bullet-hit body of a central leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from Raojan upazila in Chittagong on noon, few hours after he was allegedly picked up by a team of law enforcers.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Alam Nuru, 40, an assistant secretary
of Chhatra Dal, Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed student organisation. He was a resident of Raojan upazila.
Chhatra Dal announced countrywide demonstrations for Sunday protesting against the killing of Nurul Alam.
Raojan police officials said they recovered Nurul’s body from Khelarghat area of the upazila about noon on Thursday.
‘Being informed from local people, we recovered the body which was lying on the bank of the river Karnaphuly. The victim’s family also went to the spot and identified the body,’ said officer-in-charge of the police station Md Kefayet Ullah.
He said that they found the blindfolded body of Nurul having marks of injury at different places of the body and of a gunshot in the head. ‘His hands and legs were tied up with ropes.’
The Kefayet said that Nurul was accused in four cases including two murder cases and an explosive case.
JCD Chittagong city unit president and central joint secretary Gazi Siraz Ullah said that a group of armed people identifying themselves as the members of Chittagong district police went to Nurul’s house in the city’s Goni Bekari area at about 1:00am and picked him up.
