Chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Saturday said that the forthcoming mayoral election to the Comilla City Corporation would be a stepping stone for the Election Commission to restore complete democracy.
‘The journey for democracy will start in Comilla and the commission will not tolerate any negligence on the part of its officials,’ the CEC said addressing a discussion with election officials at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in
Comilla.
‘We are loyal only to the law and justice. No party can prevent election officers from performing their responsibilities,’
he said.
He alleged that course of democracy was obstructed during the last few elections and he hoped that the people of Comilla would not let that happen anymore.
Among others, EC secretary M Abdullah, returning officer Raquib Uddin Mondol and top officials of the law enforcement agencies were also
present.
