At least five people were killed and fourteen others injured in separate road accidents in three districts on Tuesday Wednesday.
Our Chittagong correspondent reports: a school teacher, a driver and his assistant were killed in two separate road accidents in Chittagong.
The deceased were identified as Sakera Begum, 45, an assistant teacher, of Uttar Diang Government Primary School, Rafiq Dhali, 26, a truck driver, and his assistant Shimul Mia, 24.
Sakera was run over by a truck while she was trying to cross the Third Karnaphuli Bridge in Bakalia around 8:45am, said ASI Mohammad Alauddin of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost.
Sakera is the wife of journalist Gias Uddin. Her elder sister, Latifa Ansari Runa, is also a journalist.
Another accident took place when a truck hit a parked vehicle from behind at Baratakia of Mirsharai around 3:00am, said Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of Jorarganj highway police.
Shafiqul said truck driver Rafiq and his assistant Shimul died on the spot.
UNB reports that a man was killed and nine people were injured in a road accident at Sitarampur on Magura-Jessore road in Magura sadar upazila on Tuesday.
Police said the accident took place in the evening when two human-haulers collided around 6:00pm, leaving Debubratra, 30, a resident of Poragachhi village in Shalikha upazila, dead on the spot and nine passengers of the two vehicles injured.
The injured were sent to Magura Sadar Hospital.
In another accident, a college student was killed and five others were injured as a three-wheeler collided head-on with a passenger bus near Dalsarak area under Natore sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akter Ohi, 18, of Ekdala village of the upazila. She was a student of Natore Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula Government College.
Police sergeant Hamidul Islam said the accident occurred when a three-wheeler CNG collided head-on with a public bus in the area at about 12:15pm, leaving the three-wheeler passenger Ohi dead on the spot and five others injured, including the driver.
The injured five were sent to Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
