Mijarul Quayes’ janazas held

People pay their tributes to former foreign secretary and Bangladesh ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes as his body was kept at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Monday. — New Age photo

The first namaz-e-janaza of former foreign secretary and Bangladesh ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes was held at the foreign ministry on Monday morning.
Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, state minister for foreign affairs M Shahriar Alam, state minister for finance MA Mannan, foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque and current and former diplomats attended his namaz-e-janaza.
His body was taken to the central Shaheed Minar at 10:00am and people from all strata paid their last respects to him.
Dhaka University vice chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, former secretary Mizanur Rahman, former secretary Abu Alam Shahid Khan, among others, placed wreaths on his coffin.
The body of late Mijarul Quayes was brought here from Brazil early Monday.
Deputy chief of mission at the Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia Shumona Iqbal and family members of Quayes accompanied the body.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers, said his colleagues.
Quayes will be buried at Banani Graveyard.
Quayes breathed his last at a hospital in Brasilia, Brazil at 6:00am (BST) on March 11 at the age of 57.
He served as a foreign secretary at the ministry during 2009-12.
Quayes is survived by his wife and two daughters.
