Awami League’s assistant general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Monday said the recent extremist attacks in the country were being carried out by the assistance of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami to embarrass the government.
He said all governments, after the 1975’s changeover, had nurtured extremism.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is doing the same job now, he added.
‘Extremist activities are going on to embarrass the government,’ the AL leader claimed and said that the government is working relentlessly to establish the country free from terrorism and extremism.
Hanif made the comments while he was inspecting Sylhet city’s Government Alia Madrassah ground where the party’s divisional convention is supposed to be held on Wednesday.
Answering to a question, he told the reporters that plot had been hatched by the local and foreign conspirators over the Padma Bridge project.
‘The High Court has asked to identify the conspirators behind originating the fabricated story of corruption centering Padma Bridge project,’ he said, adding that he is hopeful that the conspirators would be brought to book after investigation.
Hanif claimed that Khaleda Zia embezzled the fund of orphans.
Hanif said, ‘She has trapped herself by her misdoing. None is above the law. She would be declared disqualified for participating in election, if she is awarded punishment in the case.
AL organising secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj, Sylhet city AL president Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran and district general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, among others, were present during Hanif’s visit to the venue.
