Jessore-based theatre troupe Bibartan on Saturday received the first Pranganemor Jubaraj Khaled Khan Padak a function at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.

The award-giving programme was part of the nine-day theatre festival named Dui Banglar Natya Utsab, organised by local theatre troupe Pranganemor.

Bibartan received the award for its production Maatbring which was judged to be the best theatre production brought on stage in 2016.

Thespian Mamunur Rashid and Khaled Khan’s widow Mita Haque handed over the award crest to Bibartan chief Sanwar Alam Khan Dulu.

Two other troupes- Bat Tala and Aranyak Natyadal received special crests respectively for their productions Crutcher Colonel and The Jubilee Hotel.

Pranganemor Jubaraj Khaled Khan Padak has been introduced by Pranganemor.

Following the award-giving, the nine-day theatre festival ended through a show of Syed Shamsul Haque’s classic Nuraldiner Sarajiban by Indian troupe Kalyani Natyacharcha Kendra.

Nine theatre troupes- five local and four Indian- participated at the festival.
