Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev is likely to visit Dhaka in the third quarter of this year in a bid to take relations between the two countries to a newer height.
The two governments have started making preparations including assessing the possibility of signing about 20 agreements, in the areas of energy, defence, trade, maritime cooperation, space cooperation, infrastructure development, science and education during the visit.
Relevant ministries and departments were instructed, in an inter-ministerial meeting on Tuesday, to expedite the process of finalising the issues to be discussed and communicate their positions about the deals for consideration of signing during the visit.
Foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque presided over the meeting at the foreign ministry.
The two countries would hold a foreign minister-level talks in Moscow on April 12 to prepare grounds, among other issues, for visit of the Russian prime minister to Dhaka.
Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali would be in Moscow on April 11 on a three-day official visit at the invitation of his counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
The two countries are set to sign three memorandums of understanding on cooperation in the sectors of culture, communication and state news agencies during Ali’s visit to Moscow.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina was on an official visit to Moscow in January, 2013.
