Former navy chief Rear Admiral Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam died of COVID19 at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka Tuesday night, an official release said on Wednesday. He was 78.
The sixth navy chief, Mohaiminul Islam, led Bangladesh Navy between June 4, 1991 and June 3, 1995. Apart from COVID19, he had been suffering from problems in kidney for a long time.
His funeral prayer was performed at the navy headquarters and he was buried at the military graveyard.
He was born in Dhaka on September 11, 1941 and joined Pakistan naval academy as an officer cadet and he was commissioned on December 1, 1963.
Rear Admiral Mohaiminul Islam did his Submarine Specialisation Training in Turkey and France. He was a graduate of Naval Command College in the United States.
He was adorned ‘knight of cross’ by the Thai king.
