Central Intelligence Cell of NBR also made a search on the bank accounts belonging to the people and their businesses to verify their source of income and find out whether they had evaded income tax, said an official.

With the account freeze, no transactions could be made until the NBR unfreeze the accounts, said the official.

CIC also froze bank accounts and made bank accounts search of Regent KCS, a firm owned by Shahed, Regent Hospital director Ibrahim Khalil, Oval Advertising owned by Arif.

Rapid Action Battalion on July 7 and 8 sealed off the headquarters of Regent groups and its two hospitals after it was found that they were operating without a valid licence, selling fake COVID-19 certificate and taking huge money for COVID-19 tests.

Earlier on June 24, police arrested JKG Healthcare CEO Ariful Chowdhury and five others for their alleged involvement in the COVID-19 testing scam.
