WB president visits bKash office

The World Bank Group president Jim Yong Kim visited bKash head office on Monday, said a news release.
Kim had an engaged discussion understanding how bKash contributes in digitalising Bangladesh’s economy and impacts the development of the country.
Kim was accompanied by World Bank’s chief economist and senior vice-president Paul M Romer and World Bank vice-president for the South Asia Region Annette Dixon.
World Bank country director for Bangladesh Qimiao Fan, regional director, IFC South Asia Mengistu Alemayehu and country manager, IFC Wendy Werner were also present on the occasion.
The WB president expressed his ideas of bKash partnering with global technology providers for opening worldwide transaction opportunities to further enhance the inclusive agenda.
Kamal Quadir, CEO of bKash, briefed Kim and his team how bKash evolved over last six years. bKash chairman Shameran Abed, chief external and corporate affairs officer Sheikh Md Monirul Islam and company secretary and chief financial officer Moinuddin Mohammed Rahgir were present from the bKash side.
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is one of the four shareholders of bKash. The other three shareholders are BRAC Bank, Money in Motion LLC and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
