Feni civil surgeon M Sajjad Hossain died of COVID-19 at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday.
Feni deputy commissioner M Wahiduzzaman told New Age that Sajjad breathed his last at 5:40pm at Asgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka.
He said that Sajjad had been on ventilation support in the hospital for the last few days.
Sajjad tested positive for COVID-19 on June 12, he said.
Wahiduzzaman said that the civil surgeon was in the office just before he received the coronavirus test report on the day.
Sajjad was initially admitted to Feni General Hospital’s high-flow oxygen unit after he complained of berating complications on June 14.
He was transferred to Dhaka for better treatment on June 19 as his condition deteriorated.
Earlier on May 23, former Moulvibazar civil surgeon MA Matin died of COVID-19 at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet.
With the death of Sajjad, a total of 63 physicians have so far died of COVID-19 in Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Medical Association, 62 doctors died of novel coronavirus until Monday.
