The globally recognised diagnostic centre of ICDDR,B in the capital’s Mohakhali is going to start novel coronavirus test to patients suspected of having COVID-19 from Friday.
ICDDR,B earlier only tested samples supplied by the government free of charge. From now on, they will collect samples from people by themselves and test those commercially.
‘Initially the patient has to book an appointment through online registration by visiting http://covid19test.icddrb.org and make a payment via debit or credit card or online/mobile banking system,’ said an ICDDR,B release.
Each test will cost Tk 3,500, which is all inclusive, and fixed by the government. The test entails swab sample collection from the deep throat and nose of an individual. Samples will be collected from 7:00am to 12:00pm daily while reports will be provided within the next 24 to 48 hours.
ICDDR,B acting director for laboratory sciences and services division, Dinesh Mondal, said that they had renovated the diagnostic centre to cater for COVID-19 patients.
‘Initially we are offering the test through online registration only. Eventually we will make it more accessible to people from all walks of life. Our highly skilled, dedicated scientists and clinicians, along with state of the art laboratories will now be able to serve patients with high quality diagnosis which they have always been relied on,’ he said.
Only the patient and one accompanying attendant will be allowed inside the testing facility. They must wear face mask and properly adhere to the Government’s health and hygiene guidelines.
ICDDR,B said the ongoing COVID-19 testing support to the government would continue.
