Chattogram UP member shot dead after Eid prayers

A group of assailants shot a member of Khiram union parishad dead in Choumuhani Bazaar area of Fatikchhari upazila while he was on the way to his home after saying Eid-ul-Fitr prayers Monday morning.

Deceased Md Jabbar, 42, the member of no. 5 ward of Khiram UP, was shot in the area while he was on the way to his home after saying Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at about 9:45am. Locals took him to Nazirhat Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, Fatikchhari police station officer-in-charge Babul Akhter said.

OC Babul said that they came to know that the murder happened as a sequel to the rivalry between Khiram UP chairman and Jabbar. He said that they were trying to arrest the assailants.

Locals said that both the UP chairman and Jabbar were local leaders of Awami League and they had rivalry for long.

On Sunday evening, they said, followers of both the chairman and Jabbar chased each other at Khiram bazaar over establishing supremacy in the area.
