Superintendent of police Muhammad Harun-or-Rashid.

Superintendent of police Muhammad Harun-or-Rashid was posted to Dhaka Metropolitan Police just six months after he was withdrawn to the police headquarters from Narayanganj.
He drew media attention for his unprofessional attitudes and rights abuse during his services in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj.
During his posting in DMP as additional deputy commissioner, he took the spotlight after attacking the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Zainul Abdin Farroque, the then opposition chief whip, and other lawmakers near the parliament building on BNP-led alliance's hartal on July 6, 2011. He was later awarded his services and promoted the rank of police superintendent.
During his posting in Gazipur and Narayanganj as the district police chief, he earned huge criticism over rights abuse and harassment. Journalists in Gazipur complained that he engaged his detective team to harass journalists for reporting of his bribery scam.
In 2019, the police authorities withdrew the then Narayanganj superintendent of police, Muhammad Harun-or-Rashid, over arbitrary detention of Showkat Aziz Russell, chairman and managing director of Amber Group, and harassing his wife and their son on November 1.
The police officials did not announce any inquiry against him rather Harun of Kishorganj was only attached to the police headquarters.
Since November 2019, Harun-or-Rashid has been seen lobbying home ministry after two videos of him went viral on social media—in one video he was seen chasing a football referee for declaring him offside in a friendly match while another video showed home minister Asaduzzaman Khan in November 2019 refused him to talk in a public function.
The police official met home minister at latter’s office in November.
The home minister repeatedly claimed that action would be taken against him but no announcement about Harun was made publicly until May 2020.
On Thursday, the home ministry transferred him to the DMP, who in police considered as prize-worthy posting.
In the same order, the home ministry named incumbent DMP’s additional commissioner Mofiz Uddin Ahmed as next deputy inspector general of Sylhet Range.
The incumbent deputy commissioner (media and public relations) Masudur Rahman was transferred to the police headquarters. The incumbent Faridpur police superintendent Md Alimuzzaman was transferred to Meherpur while incumbent Meherpur police superintendent SM Murad Ali to take charge of Faridpur.
