Election Commission starts NID service online

The Election Commission on Monday started providing online service for the service seekers relating to National Identity Card as the service was suspended since the countrywide shutdown for coronavirus situation.

Addressing an online press conference, EC’s NID wing director general Mohammad Sidul Islam told reporters that people will get different services from the online platform, including receiving NID card, collecting NID number, NID correction and updating, collecting lost NID card and new voter registration.

He suggested the people interested to visit the NID’s website — — to get the necessary services while 105 hotline also remains open for service seekers.

He said that if anybody wants to get his/her NID number through SMS service, the person can send an SMS to 105 typing nid<formNo><dd-mm-yyyy>.

He said 67,58,341 people who were included in the voters' list in the latest update published on March 2 can collect their NIDs through online following the required method by the website.

He also said that interested people would also be allowed for applying for registering as new voter through the online service.

On March 22, the Election Commission suspended NID services considering public safety amid the coronavirus fear.
