Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin’s death anniv today

The 43rd death anniversary of Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin will be observed today.
On December 10, only six days before the independence, he was killed by collaborators of Pakistan army, after his warship came under Indian Air Force attack mistakenly at the River Rupsha in Khulna.
Ruhul Amin was an engine room artificer in the navy.
He was posthumously awarded the nation’s highest bravery award for his service during the liberation war.
Bangladesh Navy warship BNS Shaheed Ruhul Amin is named after him.
Ruhul Amin was born in 1934 at village Bagpanchra of Sonaimuri upazilla in Noakhali.
He finished his primary education from local schools and passed his matriculation from Sonaimuri High School in 1949 and soon after, he joined the Pakistan Navy.
At the starting of the Liberation War, Amin resigned from the Pakistan Navy and left PNS Comilla in Chittagong and came back to his village.
There he started working as an organiser of the war.
In May 1971, he, along with 500 others, joined sector-3 under Major KM Shafiullah.
Later, he enrolled at Palash, a warship of Bangladesh Navy and at the same time worked as the Squadron leader for both Padma and Palash.
On December 10, after Padma and Palash mistakenly came under attack of the Indian Air Force, he was caught by Razakars and they killed him.
