Popular theatre troupe Prachyanat will stage its acclaimed production Gondar at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today.
Gondar, which has been translated by Jahurul Haque from Romanian-French playwright Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros and directed by Towfikul Islam Emon, revolves around a man named Bérenger, an average middle-class citizen, who stands against corruptions, crimes and irregularities. However, his friends and colleagues rebuke him and suggest him to concentrate on personal gain rather than thinking for the people. One day, Bérenger discovers that all his friends and colleagues are just transforming to thick-skinned animal, Rhinoceros.  Bérenger decides to defend his humanity till the end.
Prachyanat premiered Gondar, which is the troupe’s 12th production, in 2002. Set and light design of the play is done by Md. Shaiful Islam while music is done by Rahul Anand. Prachyanaut artistes Abid Hossain, Heera Chowdhury, Sanjida Preeti, Shatabdi Wadud, Reetu Sattar, and others comprise the cast of the play.
