Govt to fix maximum fees

Health and family welfare ministry has decided to fix the maximum admission and tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges.
After setting the ceiling, a student will have to pay maximum Tk 1,990,000 to obtain his/her MBBS or BDS certificate from any private medical or dental college, the ministry officials said.
An estimated Tk 20,000 is required for completion of MBBS or BDS certificate in government medical and dental colleges, said officials at the Directorate General of Health Services.
The government initiated the move just before the admission of the students against the 5,325 seats in the existing 56 private medical and dental colleges.
The admission test results of government and private medical colleges were published on Sunday.
Health secretary M Niaz Uddin Miah on Sunday told New Age that the ministry in two or three days would issue a circular after getting the final approval from health minister Mohammad Nasim.
‘We have decided to fix the maximum admission fees and tuition fees as most of the private medical colleges are taking huge amount as tuition fee. We want to bring disciple in the sector,’ Niaz told New Age on Sunday.
The ministry officials said the ministry planned to fix the maximum admission fees at Tk 1,390,000 and Tk 4,80,000 as tuition fees for five-year medical education.
The government will fix the internship fees at Tk 120,000. After completion of the internship, a private medical or dental college would refund internship fees with profit to the students, the ministry official said.
