Locals engage in rescue operation after a fire broke out in an apparel factory of Cordial Design Limited at Mirpur in Dhaka on Sunday. — Sony Ramany

Fire broke out at an apparel factory in the capital’s Mirpur-1 on Sunday afternoon.
However, no major casualties were reported.
The fire originated around 6:00pm in the storeroom of Cordial Garments housed on the sixth floor of a building at Shah Ali Bagh of Sector-1, Mirpur, said Fire Service and Civil Defence control room official Eanyat Hossain.
Twelve units of firefighters brought the blaze under control around 6:22pm after over half an hour’s efforts and the fire was put out by 7:15pm.
A small number of workers were in the factory as they were working overtime when the fire broke out, the fire service official.
The reason and damages of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Later, the firefighters and locals rescued the workers, who took shelter on the rooftop of the factory, from nearby buildings.
