2 RMG workers found dead inside factory

Kaliakoir police on Saturday recovered bodies of two readymade garment workers from the effluent treatment plant of Urmee Knitwear Ltd in Mouchak area of Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur.
Abdur Razzak, 55, was an ETP operator who hailed from Siddipasha village in Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore, and Lavlu Mia, 25, another ETP operator, hailed from Khamar Bari village in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.
Sub-inspector Sayed Azharul Islam, in-charge of Mouchak police outpost, said both Razzak and Lavlu were on duty from 8am till 8pm on Friday.
But on Saturday morning, the authorities found them absent. When inquired, family members confirmed to factory authorities they did not return to their houses.
Their bodies were later found floating in the ETP of the factory.
Azharul said that they did not find any injury marks on the bodies.
Police recovered the bodies and sent it to Gazipur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
Soon after the bodies were found, workers of the factory started agitating on the factory premises. To avoid any untoward situation, the authorities declared a holiday for the day.
Kaliakoir police filed an unnatural death case in this connection.
The general manager of the factory Muhammad Shamsul Haque said they discovered some the victims’ belongings, including clothes and mobile phones, beside the ETP and began looking for them.
Additional police super of the industrial police of Gazipur II Enamul Kabir said that they had found ‘safety lapses’ at the EPT at Urmee Knitwear earlier.
