Tuba Group owner Delwar Hossain, who is facing charges negligence that led to death of 112 apparel workers in 2012, was released on bail after his bail order reached the Dhaka Central Jail on Tuesday afternoon.
Dhaka Central Jail senior superintendent Farman Ali said that Delwar was released at about 8:05pm after examining the document of his bail granted earlier by the High Court.
On July 24, the bench of Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder granted Delwar bail for two months following an application stating that he would pay wages to about 3,000 workers of his factories that remained outstanding since April. The workers of five units of Tuba Group are on hunger strike since July 28 demanding payment of arrears, wage and festival allowance at Hossain Market in Badda.
Additional attorney general Murad Reza, now in charge of the office in absence of the attorney general, Mahbubey Alam, told New Age that the office applied for getting certified copy of the bail order.
‘After examining the copy of the bail order we will decide later whether appeal against Delwar’s bail would be filed or not,’ he added.
On February 9, Delwar, also the Tazreen Fashions Limited managing director, was sent to jail after he had surrendered in the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in a case of homicide by negligence in connection with the fire at Tazreen Fashions that killed 112 workers in November 2012.
Earlier, Delwar’s bail petition was rejected by the chief judicial magistrate on February 10 and subsequently by the Dhaka district and sessions judge on June 10.
