The High Court on Wednesday directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner (Mirpur division) and Mirpur police officer-in-charge to appear before the court on July 15 for their failure to arrest the culprits who reportedly ‘gang-raped’ an apparel worker.
The perpetrators picked up the RMG worker in a microbus near the Technical Crossing on July 2 and allegedly raped her on the moving vehicle.
The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi Ejarul Haque Akondo asked the police to arrest the offenders immediately.
The court also asked the officer-in-charge of one-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital to report the court what steps had been taken in this regard.
The court passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation.
The writ petition was filed drawing the attention to the court through various newspaper reports published on July 3.
