Abducted man killed in ‘gunfight’ with police in Jessore

A man who was abducted earlier was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between police and alleged robbers around 2:30am on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Faruk Hossain, 42, son of Abu Bakar of Daulatdihi village under Kotwali police station.
The officer in-charge of Kotwali police, Ilias Hossain, however, told New Age that an unidentified ‘robber’ died at Khulna Medical College Hospital after receiving bullet wounds in a ‘gunfight.’
This man was identified by relatives as Faruk Hossain.
A gang was allegedly committing robbery at Kanaitala on Rajarhat-Chuknagar Road around 2:30am, when police intervened. It was when the gunfight broke, Ilias said.
‘The wounded robber was first taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital and then moved to KMCH’, the OC said.
Taslima Begum, wife of the victim told newsmen that her husband was a farmer. He was abducted by four men who identified them as police men while he was cleaning jute fibers in a nearby river around 11:00am on Friday.
‘The police personnel arrived there riding on two motorbikes and took my husband away,’ she said.
Meanwhile, three unidentified ‘robbers’ were lynched at Krishnanagar under Jhikargachha upazila during another robbery while a suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the police at Kamalpur under Kotwali police in Jessore early on June 15.
On June 6, another alleged bandit, Sabuj, 30, was ‘lynched’ on Jessore-Magura Road.
On June 8, a suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between the gang and the police near the office of multinational pesticide company Syngenta at Panchbaria along the same road.
