Haitian marksman Wedson Anselme’s sparkling hat-trick helped Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club to continue their winning run in the Independence Cupas they demolished Brothers Union 5-0 on Wednesday at Bangbanddhu National Stadium.
In the other match of the day at the same venue, Rahmatganj MFS came from behind to taste a 3-2 win over Feni Soccer Club.
Attacking duo Wedson and Emeka Darlingron showed dazzling skills to score five goals between them and put the reigning Bangladesh Premier League champions all but in semi-finals with two victories from two games.
Although Emeka could not get the hat-trick but his impact was not lesser by any means as he not only netted two goals but also assisted two to his attacking partner to complete the rout.
Jamal took the lead in the 20th minute after a nice combination by Wedson and Emeka. Receiving a through from Emeka, Wedson rounded off the keeper before placing the ball home into an empty net.
The sparkling duo combined once again to double the lead of Jamal three minutes later. This time Emeka was the scorer with a curl placing from the left edge of the box following a pass from Wedson.
Jamal scored three more goals in the last twenty minutes of the game.
Wedson extended the lead in the 72nd minute after receiving a lob from Enamul Haque the Haitian beat the lone keeper to score his second.
Emeka made it 4-0 three minutes later slotting home before Wedson completing the first hat-trick of the season in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, in the first match of the day, Feni Soccer took the lead in the 12thminute when Ghanaian striker Twum Frank nicely placed home following a cross of Akbar Hossain Ridon.
Rahmatganj midfielder Sohel Miah levelled the margin in the 25th minute after a silly blander committed by Feni keeper Osman Goni.
Rahmatganj dominated the second half and scored two more goals, thanks to their Congol forward Siyo Zunapio, who scored a brace in the 66th and 72 minutes.
Frank scored his second of the day with an injury time strike just to reduce the losing margin for Feni.
