Romena Afaz’s 89th birth anniv today

The 89th birth anniversary of thriller writer Romena Afaz, who was popular for her detective series, Dasyu Banhur, will be observed today.
The day’s programme will begin in the morning with a prayer session to be held in Bogra.
Besides, Romena Afaz Smriti Parishad, an organisation formed in her memory, will organise a discussion to mark the day at its Bogra office in the afternoon.
Born on December 27, 1926 in Bogra, Romena was the daughter of police inspector Kajem Uddin and Asia Khatun.
Romena wrote a number of 250 books including short stories, poems, juvenile novels, and social issues and mystery and detective series.
She started to write at the age of nine and her rhymes had been published in magazines in Kolkata of India.
She was also involved with different social, cultural and service-oriented organisations.
Based on Romena’s novels, six films — Kagojer Nouka, Momer Alo, Mayar Sangshar, Madhumita, Matir Manush, and Dasyu Banhur — had been made.
In 2010, Romena was awarded Swadhinata Padak for her contribution to the Bangla literature.
She died on June 12, 2003.
