Former vice-president Justice Nurul Islam dies

Former vice-president Justice AKM Nurul Islam, 92, died of old age complications at a city hospital on Saturday.
Nurul Islam served as High Court judge from 1967 to 1971 and as law minister from February 17, 1985 to August 12, 1989.
Justice Islam also served as the chief election commissioner from 1977 to 1984 and vice-president of former president HM Ershad’s regime.
Nurul Islam is survived by his widow Ekushe Padak winner poet Jahanara Arzu, two sons including Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and a daughter Professor Minara Zahan.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after the Asr prayers and his body would be taken to the Supreme Court premise after the Zuhar prayers on Sunday.
He will be buried at family graveyard at Harirampur in Manikganj on Sunday.
