Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif on Sunday alleged that Dhaka University Bangla department professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque did not want trial for the murder of his son Faisal Arefin Dipan, as he believed in the political ideology of the assailants.
‘May be, he [Faisal’s father] believes in the ideology the killers and that is why he does not want to bring the men of his own party to on trial…It is regrettable and shameful,’ Hanif said while taking to reporters at Suhrawardy Udyan, while he was visiting the venue for Awami League’s rally scheduled for today.
Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque told reporters in a choked voice after he found his son’s body in a pool of blood at Jagriti publication office on Saturday afternoon, ‘I don’t want trial for the killing of my son…What the [benefit] would be if the trial is done?’
He said, ‘The politics is responsible for the killing of my son…The country is divided into two groups — one group is doing politics with religion and another is doing politics with secularism. Both the groups are leading the nation to a devastating situation. Such politics would not stop killings of secular people. The killings would be stopped if the politics are practiced with firm belief in democracy and socialism. Or else, more killing would be occurred.’
Secular blogger and publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan was killed at his office at Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh on Saturday afternoon.
Three hours before the incident, publisher Ahmedur Rashid Chowdhury Tutul of Shuddhaswar and secular bloggers Ranadipam Basu and Tareq Rahim were hacked by unknown assailants at Shuddhaswar office at Lalmatia. They are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
