Popular actor-director Shahiduzzaman Selim has appeared in a number of Eid-special teleplays and directed two of them which went on air starting the Eid day.
A well-known face on the television and theatre, Selim has also earned recognition for his work on the big screen with a national film award to his credit. In an interview with New Age, he reflected on his current TV and cinematic endeavours.
‘I have acted in three single-episode plays and one six-episode serial. Besides, I have also directed two plays for this Eid,’ said Selim.
The six-episode serial, Pattayar Pathe Neyamat, is a sequel to the popular drama series Neyamater Keyamat aired on the previous Eid-ul-Fitr. The serial aired on SATV starting the Eid day, broadcast at 7:30pm each day.
The single-episode teleplays Mongol Chhaya, Megher Chhaya and Bhalobashi Tai will be aired on Channel i, Channel 9 and GTV respectively.
Two of his directorial ventures, Somoy Asomoy and Phera Na Pherar Majhkhane, will be aired on NTV and ATN Bangla on the fifth and sixth day of Eid respectively. As well as directing the teleplays, Selim has also acted in them.
He hopes all these productions will be equally appreciated by the audience but he is especially excited about Phera Na Pherar Majhkhane, which written by Pantha Shahriar. ‘This is not a typical Eid sitcom but a rather serious and poetic piece, if you will, involving a love triangle,’ he said.
Besides his Eid ventures, Selim is tied with a number of TV serials being aired on NTV, ATN Bangla and Channel 9.
Selim has a freewheeling attitude when it comes to acting. He appeared in all three platforms of acting: television, theatre and film – and has been hailed for his performances in all of them.
His more recent venture into the film industry has been most rewarding, earning him his first national award as an actor. Recently, he completed shooting for Taukir Ahmed’s Oggatonama and Nader Chowdhury’s Lauchar.
‘My roles in both the films are negative and are instrumental to the stories. I hope the films will fetch positive responses when released.’
