Police in plainclothes have been assigned to keep surveillance of the neighbourhood of slain boy Rakib in Khulna metropolitan area, a police official said.
The move followed an abortive attempt to kidnap Rakib’s younger sister Rimi, 8, from the court premises of Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Khulna on Tuesday.
The kidnappers, Abdul Kalam Khan and his wife Nargis Begum landed in jail on suspicion charges.
Nargis Begum is a sister of Md Mintu Khan, one of the three charge sheeted accused in the sensational Rakib murder case.
Sub-inspector Kazi Mostaque Ahmed, the investigation officer in to the Rakib murder case, said the couple were trying to lure the little girl and offered her breakfast. She was accompanying her parents in her brother’s murder case trial, but stood outside of the court room.
When contacted, the deputy commissioner of Khulna Md. Mostafa Kamal said a proposal had been sent to ministry of home affairs to send the Rakib murder case to a Speedy Trial Tribunal. All necessary information had been provided as asked for by the home ministry, the DC said.
On August 3, the 13-year-old Rakib, who used to work at a motorcycle garage at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna city, was brutally tortured to death by his former employers over quitting job.
Locals caught the two torturers Mohammod Sharif and his brother Mintu Khan and beat them up and handed them over to local police.
Alam Haldar, victim’s father, filed the case with Sadar Police Station against three people – Mohammod Sharif, Mintu Khan, and their mother Beauty Begum.
Police said Mintu’s family has been trying to intimidate Rakib’s family so that they withdraw the murder case.
