14 killed in accidents across country

At least 14 people were killed and 12 others were injured in road accidents in Sylhet, Tangail, Chittagong, Borguna and Bramanbaria on Wednesday.
Our Sylhet correspondent reported that four auto-rickshaw passengers, including an employee of the Bangladesh Air Force, were killed and the driver was injured in an accident in Sunamganj in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Muhibur Rahman, 25, an employee at Life Saving Equipment trade of the Bangladesh Air Force, Mati Lal Chakrabarti, 35, a resident of the sadar upazila, Haripada Das, 40, of Jamalganj, and Jali Rani Das, 32, of Habiganj.
The police said the accident took place as a Sylhet-bound cavard van and the auto-rickshaw collided at Hasnabad of Chhatak.
Chhatak police officer-in-charge Ashek Suja Mamun said the bodies were sent to Sunamganj General Hospital for post-mortem examinations and the auto-rickshaw driver was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The cavard van’s driver and his assistant managed to escape, he added.
The United News of Bangladesh reported that two people were killed and five others were injured in a collision between a Dhaka-bound bus and a human hauler at Kandila in the morning.
The victims were identified as Bulbul, 40, of Bogra, and Sudeb Ghatak, 35, of Tangail.
Elenga highway police camp sergeant Kamruzzaman Raj said a bus of Khaleque Enterprise and the human hauler collided in the area at about 9:30am, leaving the two dead on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were admitted to the Tangail Medical College Hospital, the police officer said, adding that the bus driver escaped.
Our correspondent in Chittagong reported that three people were killed and five other were injured as a bus hit a human hauler at the city’s Dewanhat intersection.
The victims were identified as Mohammad Nizam, 20, of Lakshmipur, Md Nayeem, 25, of Noakhali and Md Joynal, 55, of Comilla.
The Doublmooring police were investigating the accident.
Our correspondent in Barisal reported that two people, including a student, were killed and another was injured in a collision between a motorbike and a pickup-van on Patuakhali-Amtali highway at Chunakhali in Borguna in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Uzzal Lal Shil, 25, a student of Dhaka College, and Monir Sikdar.
Amtoli police subinspector Rafikul Islam said they seized the pickup van.
In Brahmanbaria, three women were killed as a bus knocked them down on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Islamabad of Sarail.
The victims were identified as Shamsunnahar, 42, Amiza, 60, and Asia, 45.
